Our 7 charming individually designed cottages are steeped in history. They started life as stables and a carriage house for Upper Chine House built in 1874 by Mr G.F. Coster, head of the London branch of a famous Amsterdam diamond-cutting family. In 1914, the house opened as a boarding school and they became the kitchens and dining hall for Upper Chine girls boarding school. The school was very successful with girls from 13 nations attending. |
During the second World War, the school was requisitioned by the Army. The school moved to the mainland but returned in 1945 where it once again became a very important part of Shanklin life.
The cottages have been converted and restored and now offer excellent holiday accommodation.
